Nominations results are out..
Tanjong Pagar (TP) GRC is the only one not contested, hence a Walkover.
My thoughts on TP supposed oppositions - please arrive earlier. The opposition is supposedly made up of 5 independents, the first of them arriving at 1143am, when the dateline is 12noon..
Nevertheless, I don't think they are very savvy.
1) PKMS had infighting not too long ago, I don't have much confidence in their party. Furthermore, a racial party tends to attract the race it represents votes. PKMS is a Malay party, hence Malay votes. Tanjong pagar DO NOT have that many of Malays to vote for you, but then again, I maybe wrong. So please don't sue me.
2) Well they were not really early were they? Although the disqualification was really controversial, if they had arrived earlier and settle everything earlier, they would have cleared before 12noon!!!

I'm "sad" though that my current MP, Mr Baey Yam Keng will be contesting in Tampines instead. The new guy replacing him is some orthopedic, hopefully he carry on the good works Mr Baey did, and not be like the old MP who just sit around and be a centre piece. If I vote, my vote will probably be awarded to the person who will help my area - improving facilities, helping the residents etc.

Perhaps I'm glad that I do not need to vote, because the opposition candidates doesn't seem appealing to me. I saw an article by one of the parties - Reform Party (RP) commenting on the SERS project. It cited that many residents felt that they were given not enough in total (in my summary). I say that those Singaporeans just have nothing better to do. Sure the space is smaller. All new houses have smaller floor area!! My aunts who were part of the SERS project did not complain, in fact they were quite happy with it. Singaporeans should learn to grow up and start looking around. It irks me sometimes when I read/hear/see such ungrateful behaviour.

On the parliament front, I'm not really too bothered with the acts and what's not. My main concern is this: whatever you do and decide, will the country grow? Or will it back track? I don't want Singapore to be like our neighbours. We are already industralised/ first world. We can't developed much more unlike China who is a DEVELOPING nation. We can only sustain and improve. On the act regarding homosexuality, I do agree with Ms Nicole Seah from NSP that we have to be an open society and not ostracise these people for being who they are. Morality now is a big question mark, fuel by commercialism and individualism. The government can't take a stand on such issues anymore. However, I'll do draw the line with gay marriages. I also believe that for Singapore to remain competitive, our wages should also increase. This is especially so to retain your own talents. Many Singaporeans I know working overseas is mainly due to the income. Sure the government pays $3k for a fresh graduate. BUT the workforce doesn't. Some pay as low as $2.2k. Of course the amount earned is subjected to the field of study. But is it possible to have a minimal requirement by all companies? Say the science field should pay their employees a minimal of $3k for their fresh grad, those of the marketing field should get a minimal of at least $2.5k for starters? Although our cost of living is considerably lower then most developed nations, it is still steadily increasing whereas the pay remains the same. So who ever are in the upcoming parliament for the next five years, please consider the income of every Singaporeans, for the low waged to middle income, and not just YOUR OWN POCKETS!

Note to self: update more often...

The month of April had been pretty much eventful for me so far, starting with my first aid course over at SJAB [5-8]. A 4 days course (which was good news for me, being away from the office) where I was the only female in class. In addition, there was not a single eye candy. Sigh. What a way to spend four days. Nevertheless, I passed the tests and was certified, while making the SAME mistake as I did the previous time I had took up a first aid certification - during the CPR test, I had forgotten to call for HELP!! =( The tester was cool, at the end of the practical test, he told me: "don't forget to call for help, otherwise you'll be very very tired." Certification aside, I did learn a new skill - AED (first aid is not considered a new skill to me since this was the 3rd time I was sitting for certification). Jessie also arrived back to Singapore on the 8th for a 2weeks holiday.. Saturday, 9th April, we went to the zoo - papa, mummy, my 2 sisters, my niece and me =) Rebecca had her fun, running around, while we adults took turns to carry her.. Ok, I hardly carried her, I was accompanying her running around the zoo.. What a great aunt I am. LOL. It was a pity that the zoo is undergoing renovation works, so most of the enclosures were closed. I did not even get to see any of the bears!! T_T Ah well. Sunday the 10th was more packed for the family as after church, we went to have our studio photoshoots, finally after so long, I took my graduation photo. After the phototaking, we had family BBQ, where Rebecca played(more like pushing) with her cousins (Wendy's girls only as the rest did not come). Did I mentioned that it was pouring in the evening? We improvised by bringing the BBQ pit indoors - we placed the charcoal tray/pit onto drain covers and barbecued from there. Really innovative of us.. hahaha... The following week activities were toned down, with Jessie meeting her friends and me going back to work. The family went to the botanical gardens on Saturday (16/4/11) where we did our usual, only with Rebecca around. She chased the birds and even managed to touched a pigeon! We brought her swimming again on Sunday. She love the water, as in the taste. Kept seeing her licking her float and sticking out her tongue -_- She fell sick on Tuesday, vomiting in the morning, and felt feverish. What a way to spend my off day. We were suppose to go for tim sum brunch but Jessie stayed behind to look after the girl. Rebecca on the other hand, threw a huge tantrum. When she saw her grandparents getting ready to leave the house, she immediately ran to the pram, which was placed near the shoe racks, and wanted to wear her socks and shoes so she could go out. Of course we didnt allow her and she made a hell lot of noise. We brought her to the doctor, and she quieten down, knowing that she was out of the house. She was really well behaved at the doctor's, fuss free and all. In fact, she was running around while we were chatting with the doc, playing with the toys. You wouldn't believe that she was sick. All that changed when we entered the house. She immediately lie on the floor her scream her lungs out. Demanding little girl. Went to Segamat on Friday for gong gong's birthday. Not only were we caught in a 2 hours jam once we left Singapore's side of the bridge, the little girl was throwing another tantrum, almost throughout the journey, unless we managed to get her to sleep. The portholes caused by the flooding during the CNY period are still there, hardly patched back at all. Even if they were repaired, it was a really shoddy job as the roads are still bumpy.. We had a buffet style dinner where each sibling were required to contribute at least 1 item. Dayi was the master planner/chef and delegated the menu out. We had konnyaku jelly, which I made them the night before. Response was good although I thought it was SWEET!! But I guess my maternal relatives have very "strong" tastebuds.. Rebecca once again had a lot of fun playing with her cousins. Valencia and her are really funny. They loved po po's porridge, meatballs, chocolates and are really competitive. Rushed on Saturday (23/4) as Jessie was flying back that night. This sums up my April's adventure. Nomination Day is tomorrow. I wonder whether anyone will contest for TP. hmmm...
